Floating water plantain

Luronium
Luronium natans
Origin: Autòctona
Habitat: Aquatic
Other popular names:

The floating water plantain is an aquatic plant that lives in puddles and lakes in the west and center of Europe. In the Iberian Peninsula there are only 5 small areas where the floating water plantain can be found in the shape of isolated nucleus. It presents submerged linear leaves, floating or aerial leaves of < 4 cm in length and 3 white with a yellow spot on the base petals.

This little Macrophyte lives in very sensitive habitats and presents very small and fluctuating populations. Its distribution is very fragmented without the possibility of exchange among populations. That is the reason why it is classified as an endangered species in the Pyrenees.
